Healthcare services research includes, for example, analysing healthcare services provided to the general population, or to a selected population; developing and scientifically monitoring new care concepts; and evaluating new forms of care under everyday conditions.
A variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods are applied in order to find answers to research questions posed.
Issues of interest may include the use of healthcare services, the improvement of quality of life, and the reduction of costs.
LiKe Healthcare Research GmbH takes charge of all the activities accruing in this field, ranging from development, conceptual design and implementation to analysis and preparation of the results according to the requirements defined by the health policy, by service providers, health insurance companies or the pharmaceutical and medical technology industries, and by other stakeholders in the healthcare system.
Scope of our Services
Evaluations are an important element of healthcare services research as they assess the effectivity, the efficiency, and the feasibility of (new) forms of care. The outcome evaluation examines different outcomes, such as disease activity, the decrease of symptoms, or the improvement of quality of life. The health economic evaluation includes the analysis of costs of illness or the cost-benefit ratio of new interventions. The process evaluation focuses on the scientific monitoring during the implementation.
LiKe Healthcare Research GmbH provides you with a global evaluation of your idea – including an outcome evaluation, a health economic evaluation and a process evaluation. To this end, we often use a mixed-methods design that applies quantitative and qualitative research methods skilfully combined in order to collect and assess data.
Scope of our Services
The digitalisation in the healthcare sector opens up a broad spectrum of ways to improve the quality of care in the healthcare sector. Digital health applications (DiGA), digital care applications (DiPA), robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) are being used more frequently to support the healthcare sector in order to improve the quality of care and to reduce costs. Digital solutions are often an essential element of complex interventions.
Scope of our Services
Complex interventions consist of a range of interacting components and bring together numerous involved groups (of patients), service providers, organisations, or other stakeholders from various contexts and settings in the healthcare system. Complex interventions often require an interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral care approach in order to ensure a coordinated and continuous care program.
Scope of our Services
Interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral care is an approach aiming to improve the quality of care. The cooperation among various disciplines from different sectors, where required, allows an integrated, coordinated and continuous patient care that meets the specific needs of the individual person concerned. In the recent past, the idea of an interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral care has also reflected in relevant networks.
Scope of our Services
The German healthcare sector has registered an increase in multi-disciplinary care networks, involving a variety of service providers, such as physicians from various disciplines, psychotherapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, pharmacists, and other stakeholders in the healthcare sector, and striving to improve patient care.
Scope of our Services

The project “Digital health applications as a modern alternative of care in the outpatient medical treatment of musculoskeletal disorders” (DiGAmove) aims to examine the use of digital health applications (DiGA) for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders within the standard care system – in the context of analogue treatment options – taking routine data of the national health insurance scheme as a basis.
The focus will be on exploring the question as to whether DiGA for musculoskeletal disorders should be prescribed alone or in addition to other therapy options, such as physical therapy. The routine data analysis will examine the use of healthcare services as well as the costs before and after the DiGA prescription.
LiKe Healthcare Research GmbH will support the DiGAmove project by providing its vast expertise and experience in analysing secondary data and will actively participate in health economic discussions.
Duration: 01/2023 to 12/2023
Digital health applications as a modern alternative of care in the outpatient medical treatment of musculoskeletal disorders
The project “Proactive rather than reactive symptom recognition in patients with Parkinson’s disease” (ParkProReakt) is aimed at developing, implementing, and evaluating a digitally based integrated care concept. The digital solution shall include a mobile application (app), wearable sensors (in a SOMNOWatch), a video-based therapy device, a server-based data integration centre and a web platform used for interaction and for the provision of information for patients and their family members, physicians, therapists, care personnel and Parkinson’s nurses.
The objective is to make use of a digitally based integrated care concept in order to achieve an improved care for patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease as well as a quantifiable improvement of quality of life for these patients. This new form of care seeks to recognise changes of symptoms proactively and at an early stage in the progression of the disease, and to provide patients with strategies for action to enable them to have a favourable effect on the course of the disease.
The evaluation covers an outcome evaluation, a program and process evaluation, and a health economic evaluation. LiKe Healthcare Research GmbH has been assigned to the implementation of the health economic evaluation. The project will benefit from primary data by using one questionnaire to assess quality of life and a second questionnaire to determine the use of medical and non-medical care services. Furthermore, secondary data, i.e. routine data of the participating health insurance companies within the national health insurance scheme, will be utilised to analyse the use of healthcare services and the related costs.
Duration: 01/2023 to 12/2024
The project “Holistic care for patients with atopic dermatitis” (ADCompanion) seeks to implement a digital care model that ensures access to a holistic and continuous treatment for patients suffering from atopic dermatitis (AD), irrespective of their place of residence. To do so, patients or their families will be provided with a companion app, which includes validated training material as well as a symptom diary and a trigger diary. In addition, individual online consultancy will be provided in the fields of care, nutrition, and psychosocial needs.
The goal of the project is to show that patients with atopic dermatitis experience an improvement in the course of their disease and an increase in their quality of life by gaining access to digitally provided training programs that don’t require physical presence.
The project foresees an outcome evaluation, a health economic evaluation, and a process evaluation. LiKe Healthcare Research GmbH will be in charge of the process evaluation, which will pursue a mixed-method approach by combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. In addition to a patient survey, focus groups will be conducted with affected children’s families, with affected adolescents aged 12-17 years and with affected adults.
Moreover, guided interviews will be used to survey participating physicians as well as involved care consultants, nutritionists, and psychologists.

The “Pilot project for intensified inter-professional outpatient therapy for geriatric patients” (InATheGer) attempts to improve outpatient healthcare for elderly patients by introducing standardised inter-professional healthcare services. These services include treatments such as individually tailored cures, nutritional advice, and the adjustment of vision or hearing aids. Over a period of 14 weeks, patients aged over 70 years will be provided with these healthcare services for about 20 days. During that period, access to these new services will be ensured also for patients with restricted mobility.
The therapeutic concept introduced with this project aims for coordinated community-based outpatient counselling and treatment services provided by non-medical health professionals based in primary care-led treatment centres. This approach will help support primary care practitioners in rural areas in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and reduce their burden. The new counselling and treatment services can improve the autonomy of the patients’ everyday life regarding their functional and cognitive capabilities.
NextGen deliverables will include a toolbox for multimodal data integration, accessible tools for genomic data analysis, a set of approaches to improved clinical efficiency of variant prioritisation, tested and validated methods for scalable genomic data curation, and solutions for improved data discoverability and data management.
The project will be subject to scientific monitoring in the form of an outcome evaluation, a health economic evaluation, and a process evaluation. LiKe Healthcare Research GmbH will implement the health economic evaluation for the InATheGer project. For this purpose, they will collect data in order to, e.g., evaluate mobility and autonomy regarding everyday capabilities, assess quality of life, and determine the use of medical and non-medical healthcare services, including care services. In addition, LiKe Healthcare Research GmbH will make use of routine data of one of Germany’s health insurance companies, Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), to analyse both the use of healthcare services and the related costs.
Duration: 07/2024 to 06/2027
